Last Post of The Year 2014

So this really is the last post for 2014.  As promised I managed to blog every single day of December.  Yes, it's been hard, as explained in my I Completed Blogmas post.  And now I kind of feel a bit lost.  I don't really know what to do.  I could keep blogging everyday because this is my blog after all.  But I don't know......

YSL's The Marjorelle Gardens

It's been three years since I visited Marrakech and I thought I would share with you some of my pictures of The Marjorelle Gardens.  I had the chance to visit the twelve acre botanical garden owned by Yves Saint Laurent.

The garden is beautiful with lovely cacti and greenery against the cobalt blue and yellow of the art deco building.  It's so peaceful that you can hear the gentle stream of water from the fountain.  There are plenty of pathways guiding you around the garden making it an enjoyable walk to the sound of the birds singing in the trees around you.

The garden also houses the Islamic Art Museum of Marrakech, which also has YSL's personal collection as well as ceramics, jewellery and paintings.  We weren't allowed to take any pictures inside but I have plenty of the lush garden.  Here they are, enjoy.

Diaries & Notebooks to help you get organised in 2015

Can you believe there's only a few more days left of this year before we start another new year?  Nope, me neither!  2014 has flown by and I can still remember the start of the year so clearly.  And since I'm running my own business and writing a blog too, I need to make sure I'm always up to date and organised.  Remembering dates and those never ending to do lists in my head is not enough when there's so much to take in.  No wonder I find myself forgetting the most simplest things!  So I picked out some diaries and notebooks for 2015 to help me get organised.

RECIPE | Lily Pebbles Brookies

So as you all know one of my many favourite bloggers/youtubers is of course Lily Pebbles.  I've been watching her vlogmas throughout December, and if like me you have too then you'll be familiar with what she likes to call Brookies.  They're a cross between a cookie and a brownie and I had a go at making them today.

Follow me on Pinterest

So I finally decided to do something about Pinterest.  I've been using Pinterest for quite some time now.  Well actually to be honest, I've been using it way before I started using Instagram.  I've been pinning for a long time and it can get quite addictive sometimes.  Ok, all the time!  There's just so much on there it goes on forever.  But you know, I've found some of the best things on Pinterest.  And anyway who doesn't like to get all Pinteresty from time to time?  You know what I mean? Right?

I completed Blogmas!

So I can finally say I completed blogmas.  I'm not gonna lie, it was HARD.  It definitely wasn't an easy task.  When I first decided that I would take part I wasn't quite sure what I was letting myself in for.  There were days when I thought I can't do this, or I didn't know what to write about.

Blogmas Day #24 | REVIEW: Halal Sweet Gifts

A few weeks ago Claire from Halal Sweet Gifts contacted me about the launch of her new business Halal Sweet Gifts.  So today I received my package in the mail and as you can imagine I was very excited to open it.  I'm pretty sure you would be too, especially since I knew there was a sweet treat in there and they were halal too!

Inside was my sweet little package wrapped in pink tissue paper and once I carefully took that off (for some reason I can never just rip it open), I was quite surprised to find a cute little bag inside.

Blogmas Day #23 | How To Tie A Square Scarf

As you may know turbans are definitely in fashion at the moment.  You may have read about it here.  So I decided to have a look on the internet for any tutorials on how you can tie a scarf in different ways.  I came across this very simple, side swept, alternative to the traditional turban style.

Blogmas Day #21 | In The Spotlight: Anya Hindmarch

Earlier this year I spotted the ad campaign for Anya Hindmarch's cute and quirky bags that had Tony the Tiger and the cockerel from the well loved cereal, Kellogg's Cornflakes, all over them.  I didn't look into it much back then but I did notice the bags and thought, 'wow that's too cool!'

I love things that are made to look like something we all know and love.  If you noticed the 10p purse from my November Wishlist and the Frosties compact mirror in my 10 Gifts Under £10 post then you'll know that this is right up my street.

So I was about to do a post on 10 cool clutches and was just looking for the last two to add to the list when I spotted the Crisp Packet 18 carat rose gold clutch by Anya Hindmarch.  Now that's one packet of crisps you won't be throwing away in a hurry!  So I decided to pay a visit to the official website to see more of Anya's fascination with making the everyday extraordinary. Believe me when I say, I felt like I was in a sweet shop!  I fell in love with everything and it was too difficult to pick ONLY two bags.  I want to show them all off!  These bags needed a blog post all of their own!

So what I've done is show you some of my favourite ones, because some I like to eat too (not the bag or course!).  And I'll leave you to go and have a browse for more wearable art.

Blogmas Day #20 | My favourite online stores for modestwear

As you may know I like to wear an abaya everyday and more recently also on special occasions too.  I actually have a large collection of evening wear abayas now and they're not the typical kind either.  I might even show you one day when I get a chance to take some lovely pics for you.

So today I thought I would put the spotlight on some of my favourite online stores that have the most amazing modest wear.  Instead of being bulky and baggy they're very stylish, elegant and absolutely gorgeous.  I often find myself just browsing all the collections and I'm always looking forward to seeing what's new.

Each of these stores has their own unique style and shows that covering up doesn't mean you can't look good either.  So here they are:

Aab Collection
This store has been around for a while, even before Instagram was around.  I know this because I came across Aab Collection way before I got married and I've been married six years now.  Back then I wasn't wearing the abaya everyday, but I was looking for one because I didn't have any. And I was going to make the trip of a lifetime to Makkah and Madinah.

This is probably one of the first stores that I came across online and felt there was something there that looked great and I knew I would wear.  Since then they have come a long way and what I love about Aab is that their abayas have such an elegant look to them, even the everyday ones!

Blogmas Day #18 | Make A Statement With These Stunning Necklaces

Sometimes it's nice to wear something plain and simple.  It always looks beautiful, and even more so when the cut and the style of the dress you're wearing is just right too.

I personally love wearing plain outfits, especially if they're black.  But more because it means that I can wear my dress in more than just one way.  And I can also add different pieces to it to change the complete look from day to night.  I also get more for my money, can't be bad, can it?

One of the ways I like to add something special to my outfit is jewellery and usually it's a statement piece.  For me statement necklaces really stand out and I just love the diamonds and sparkle they add without being OTT.

So I've picked out some statement necklace from Love Hijab that look stunning and won't break the bank either.

Blogmas Day #17 | Wear Elie Saab Without the Price Tag

So today I was just looking through a few of my favourite websites and as usual you always stumble upon something when you least expect it.  I was actually struggling to find something decent to blog about and just when I thought yes that's what I'm going to do, I found something else and all plans changed!

If you've been reading my blog right from the start, you'll know how much I love the gowns designed by Elie Saab.  So when I came across this dress on the Zara website I couldn't help but feel a bit of Elie Saab going on there.  And at only £39.99 it's a steal!  I think it would make a great dress to wear to a party.  And you can pretend you're wearing Elie Saab for the day too.

Blogmas Day #16 | Get to Know Love Hijab: My Online Store

So today, I thought I would introduce you to Love Hijab.  Some of you may know that as well as blogging I also run my own company online, selling scarves and jewellery.

http://lovehijab.tictail.com/

I started my business back in 2013 and I must say I really do enjoy it.  From choosing the latest stock to packing orders too.  There's something so rewarding about working for yourself even though it can be very challenging at times.  I don't always get a lot of time to myself because I'm constantly working.  Although it probably doesn't look like I'm working when I'm tweeting or posting a pic on instagram, or taking pictures, but I am.  And because I really enjoy what I do, it doesn't even feel like I'm working!

I can run my business on my phone, so I'm always making collages or editing pictures or something.  And it's usually to do with Love Hijab.  It's like I have a mini computer!

Blogmas Day #14 | Travel In Style

I love travelling, even if it is just a weekend away.  Just the thought of planning the trip and packing my bags makes me excited.  I always make a list because it would be a disaster if I forgot anything, and I always like to make sure I take everything I think I'll need, just in case.  The last thing I want is to get to my destination and find that I'm missing something and then having to go and find a replacement.  That's why it's so important that I have a bag that fits everything I need with me for the trip.  And it has to look good too!

A few years ago I went in search for a weekend bag that ticked all the right boxes in terms of space and looks.  But I was so disappointed to find that there was nothing nice or stylish in the womens bag section on any of my favourite websites.  So instead I had a look in the mens section and I found a lovely deep maroon coloured one with brown leather straps.  Looking at it, you wouldn't even know it!

So today I decided to go in search for a weekend bag in the womens section and I was pleasantly surprised to find some gorgeous beauties.

Blogmas Day #13 | Marsala Pantone Colour of the Year 2015

The colour of the year is Marsala, chosen by Pantone, a group of experts from around the world who pick the new black.  Pantone holds two very secret meetings a year where a panel of colorists debate which colour will be the colour of the year.  Marsala is the Pantone colour of 2015, described as 'a naturally robust and earthy wine red, Marsala enriches our minds, bodies and souls'.

At first I'm not too sure about the colour.  I find it looks a little bit dull.  Compared to previous years, Marsala is a very different tone.  In 2014 we had Radiant Orchid, a very pretty lilac colour and 2013 was Emerald Green.  I love this colour, it's gorgeous.  So I thought to look for some outfits in Marsala and I surprisingly changed my mind.  Looking at the colour on it's own, it doesn't look very flattering but when used in clothing and accessories it actually looks lovely and very rich and elegant.

Blogmas Day #12 | Jewellery Storage

If like me you have a lot of jewellery and you've run out of places to put it all nicely, you'll know exactly what I mean when I say it's a real struggle when it comes to finding your favourite ring or necklace tangled in between all the others.

It always feels like my jewellery has been hit by a tornado! There's always something missing and no matter how many times I try to organise it, it never seems to stay like that.

So this week I decided to, number one, de-clutter and number two, organise! I want to get rid of all the bits of jewellery that are falling to pieces or have missing parts and try to make sense of what I have.  So that when I feel like wearing a particular necklace, bracelet or ring, I'm not spending ages looking for it.  And it would be nice to have everything in one place instead of dotted around everywhere.

So I went on the hunt for some jewellery storage that's practical and pretty too.

Blogmas Day #11 | 3 Ways to Wear A Maxi Dress

You might already know from my previous posts that I do love to wear the good old maxi dress.  I just find them to be so comfortable and you can dress them any way you like, especially if like me you go for the plain black ones all the time.  Sometimes, you just feel like you want to change things up a little.  So i've come up with 3 looks that you can wear for any ocassion, be it an interview/work, for home/shopping or for going out.

Blogmas Day #10 | How to give your party look a bit of a casual edge

I'm a girly girl and love everything that looks flowery and sparkles.  So you won't be surprised when I tell you that if I was invited to a party I would go for something that's been embellished with diamonds on it, even if it is all black!

But for those of you who dread having to get out of your comfy jeans and t-shirt, I've come up with a look that has a bit of girly glam to it, but with a casual edge.

I've teamed up a maxi dress with a leather jacket and boots to give this party look a different style.   I've also added a sparkly clutch so you can still look like you're dressed to party without looking like a Christmas tree!

My Winter Wishlist inspired by Raise.com

I have to admit I do like winter.  I know it may sound a little strange, but I like dressing up nice and warm and feeling cosy in my winter woollies.  There's just something so charming about a winters evening, even though it starts to get dark very quickly.

Now, although I like winter and staying cosy, you'd think that means I don't like going out. Right?  Nope!  Wrong!  I love going out, even more so in summer when the days are longer, and just because it's winter, I don't like to let that stop me.  And I'm pretty sure you do too.

Going out means dressing up, and for winter it's worth investing in some cosy knits.  I know what you're thinking.  Thick woolly jumpers and funny bobbly hats!  There's nothing wrong with that, but when you want to go out, you don't want to look like a big furry teddy bear!

So I've come up with a stunning outfit, perfect for the chilly wintery nights to keep you feeling toasty and looking great too.

I don't know about you, but I always check my phone for the time.  So much so, that I even do it when I'm wearing Michael Kors on my arm!  There's just something special about the timepiece that will never be outdated.

The elaborate craftsmanship and design make this very simple timepiece a glamorous fashion statement with a purpose.  But the reason I wear mine is mostly for it's style and a lot less for it's purpose.  At least I know this is one accessory I'm not wasting my money on, because it actually has a purpose!

Whilst browsing online I found these stunning denim on denim looks, which inspired me to make my own D on D outfit.  See below for all the deets.

Blogmas Day #5 | RECIPE: Chocolate Truffles

There seems to be a recurring theme here with my recipes recently.  They've all been chocolate ones!  We've had the chocolate covered fruit and the chocolate cake and now....chocolate truffles.  Can't be bad can it?

Todays recipe is super quick and easy too and it's from BBC Good Food again!!  I made Chocolate Truffles not so long ago and they were so tasty, soft and velvety, melt in the mouth chocolate dreams.  I covered them in chopped almonds, pistachios and chocolate flakes.

Blogmas Day #3 | 18 Flats From ASOS

I'm the type of person that loves to dress up and wear heels, and I used to wear them all the time.  I never went anywhere near a flat shoe if I saw one!

But these days, things are a little different.  For some time now, I've been wearing flats everyday and I quite like it.  Don't get me wrong though, I still like to bring out my heels, but mostly on special occasions.

Wearing flats doesn't have to be about comfort over style.  There's certainly no need to compromise on style.  So here, I've picked out 18 flats from ASOS.

Blogmas Day #2 | Calling All Turbanistas

Ok, so this post was supposed to be about woolly hats.  Yes, that's right! I was searching for some woolly hats when I stumbled upon the Turban.  They looked too beautiful to keep to myself, so I had to get this out there.  I'm calling all you turbanistas, because this is just for you.

As you may know, turbans have always been in and out of fashion.  Elizabeth Taylor wore one in the 60's and so did Barbra Streisand in the 70's.  And when Kate Moss wore one to the 2009 Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum, she had officially brought it back in style.

BUSINESS FEATURE | Calligraphy & Sequins

I came across Calligraphy & Sequins a while ago on Instagram and have always admired the details in each beautifully painted piece.  So when I asked if there were any businesses out there that would like to be featured on my blog, I was pleasantly surprised to find that an email from C&S had dropped into my inbox.

I had the amazing opportunity to interview Sahnia and learn more about Calligraphy & Sequins.

Calligraphy & Sequins brings you Islamic Art with a difference- bold colours and bold pattern set out to redefine Islamic Art as we know it. The combination of contemporary design and traditional calligraphy, embellished beautifully, gives you unique and beautiful artwork with a timeless effect. Founded by Sahnia Hussain, a self-taught female artist who likes to experiment with different calligraphy styles, using a range of materials.

What inspired you to start this business?
Calligraphy & Sequins remained mainly a concept for a long time. I felt there was a market for unique, bold and bespoke art that would beautify and personalise any home. I had a desire to create Islamic art that was different; bright and blingy! Colour is an important factor in my work; it is all around us - in nature, food, clothing, architecture but I felt the Islamic art available to buy was sometimes limited in design and certainly in colour. Islamic art is a statement in itself and should therefore stand out in our homes which is why I like to work with bold colours and pattern; art should beautify, remind and inspire.  This is what I aim to do with my work, and I pray insha'Allah others can gain inspiration through my art.

Recipe: Chocolate Cake

Who doesn't like chocolate cake?!  Everyone loves chocolate cake!  I haven't had a chance to bake for a while and have been watching loads of videos on Youtube with my daughter, and I realised that I actually miss baking......a lot!!

I used to bake all the time before I had my 4 month old, but since he was born I just haven't had the time.  So yesterday, during nap time of course, I thought it's time I made a chocolate cake.  I wanted to make one that was really really chocolatEy and looked like a real chocolate cake too.  You know what I mean?

So I found this recipe on the BBC Food website and it looked pretty easy and I also had all the ingredients too.  Which is the most important thing, isn't it?

I changed a couple of things though.  I didn't have two 8 inch pans, so used a 9 inch cake tin instead, and baked the cake on gas mark 3 in a fan oven for about 1 hour.  So instead of baking two cakes, i baked one and them cut it in half.

The second thing I did differently was that I filled and decorated my chocolate cake with fresh cream and topped with fresh strawberries because I like chocolate cake and cream.  I think it goes very well together.  In the recipe it says to make a chocolate icing, which I'm sure would taste great too.

Winter Chic | 3 Styles from Topshop

Just because it's getting colder doesn't mean your clothes have to be unflattering and boring.  Yes, you will have to wrap up warm but you certainly don't need to compromise your style.  Winter is all about layering, and that's great because it means you can still wear your cute summer dress.  All it needs is a cosy knit and a pair of tights along with some trendy boots and away you go.

I've put together 3 outfit ideas for you to try out or take inspiration from.  Not only this, but I also challenged myself to find a complete outfit from one high street store.  I chose Topshop.  I'm sure it's a favourite amongst many of you too.

REVIEW: Hadiyah's Natural Essence

OK so I've been meaning to do this for a long time now and although I put up a small review on my instagram I think it's about time I did a proper one for my blog.

There are a LOT of skincare products out there so there's definitely no shortage.  Some are just brilliant and work wonders and others not so.  And I suppose in some ways it's just about what works best for you and your skin.

I have quite sensitive skin on my face so try to be careful about what I use, as my skin tends to go red and irritable.  Sometimes, even when I use something mild.  I can't use anything too harsh so when I came across Hadiyah's Natural Essence on instagram I thought I'd try it out.

All the products are made with natural ingredients and are 100% halal too, so that's a great bonus right from the start.  Not only this, but together with all the positive feedback I was reading on Hadiyah's instagram page I knew this was not just a gimmick and that the products were actually working, and doing what they were supposed to.

Cardigans & Capes

The one thing I love about this season is that you can wear cosy cardigans to add layers as a stylish alternative.  I personally love cardigans, especially the longer length ones as they double up as a coat too.  These days you can find cardigans in plenty of chunky knits, colours, styles and designs.  No more plain janes!!  They're so easy to wear, just throw on over a dress, abaya or top and you're good to go.

Whilst searching for cardigans I came across plenty of stylish capes too.  So, it looks like capes are IN this season and here are my top picks.

Earlier this year I went on a little Easter break with my family to London.  The last time I visited London was when I was 5 years old, so imagine my excitement when I started making a list of all the places I wanted to visit.  And one of them was definitely The Hummingbird Bakery.  I couldn't go all the way to London and NOT go, could I?
